Realtytrac released a report a couple of weeks ago that should be a wake up call to those that believe we’re out of the housing crisis. The site, which boasts keeping up on the most current in housing and forclosure statistics revealed that:
Q3 2009, which shows that foreclosure filings — default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions — were reported on 937,840 properties in the third quarter, a 5 percent increase from the previous quarter and an increase of nearly 23 percent from Q3 2008. One in every 136 U.S. housing units received a foreclosure filing during the quarter — the highest quarterly foreclosure rate since RealtyTrac began issuing its report in the first quarter of 2005.
That’s pretty scary news and it comes as no surprise to Kristy Sinsara, who is the President of The Consumer Advocacy Foundation. Sinsara has been helping others, helping to educate the public on how to keep their homes when they may feel all hope is lost- and also doing a great deal more than that. Pairing up with The Consumer Advocacy Foundation is the Shade Tree Shelter for Women and Children, in Nevada. The shelter has seen better days, as well, stating that they have seen a great increase in demand for their services, but very little in the way of an increase in donation. Kristy Sinsara is trying to change all of that with an innovative program that partners community service and education for homeowners who may feel that they have no options. Kristy Sinsara asserts that in many cases, they do, they just do not realize it- and a quick look at those who her workshops have helped reveals a great number of homeowners who still have their homes agreeing with her.
Tiffany Scott, a victim of the housing crisis who also recently lost her home, had this to say, If I’d been more aware of what my options were, I definitely would’ve been able to make an educated decision and unfortunately, I wasn’t able to do that at that point.”
And that is exactly what Kristy Sinsara does- she, through the Consumer Advocacy Group, educates people through informative workshops, as well as working with these people to help them find the options they need to keep their homes. In return, the Foundation asks that clients “pay it forward” rather than paying- volunteering their time at local community service oriented and nonprofit organizations.
All in all, the Consumer Advocacy Group, lead by Kristy Sinsara seems to be doing a great deal in a time where many feel that nothing can be done. Seeing this kind of thoughtfulness and compassion is something that I believe we can all really get behind and acknowledge as a much needed break from the sort of things we have been seeing of other companies and seems to be gaining steam- more and more organizations are coming on board, creating a great loop of caring and compassion.
