The Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008
On July 30 2008, President Bush signed into law HR-3221, a housing bill that is setup to help the slammed housing market as well as home finance companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
This bill provides $180,000,000 funds to be used for pre-foreclosure counseling, and to be distributed in grants by the NeighborWorks America, with $27,000,000 to be used for low income and minority homeowners as well as neighborhoods. In addition $30,000,000 will be available for legal counseling to help homeowners in or facing foreclosure.

Many local non-profit stop foreclosure counseling groups are getting a real boost in their budget. They should have the funds to train and hire more stop foreclosure counselors. Many new local non-profit stop foreclosure counseling groups are being formed to give help in this massive epidemic of foreclosure facing our nation.
